SUMMER
The Emergency Weather Response (EWR) Cooling Center Program is available in St. Charles County through August. Cooling Centers are activated when an Excessive Heat Advisory is issued and temperatures are forecast to reach 100°F or higher for two or more consecutive days.
On activated days, Cooling Centers are open from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at rotating church locations throughout St. Charles County.
Before traveling, call the EWR Hotline at 636-344-0177 after 9:00 AM to hear the daily activation status and location. The recorded message is updated each activation day and remains available until 5:00 PM.
Please Note: Transportation to Cooling Centers is not available. Individuals should plan ahead and arrange transportation if needed.

WINTER
This program is activated to provide safe sleep overnight when the weather is predicted to be 20 degrees or below, at local area churches. Find out if the program is activated by calling 636-344-0177 after 3:00 PM on the night the safe sleep location is needed. The recording will provide the location and time the location is open for safe sleep. If transportation assistance to the safe sleep location is needed, volunteer transportation dispatchers will return calls later in the day and arrange transportation to the open shelter.
