Addressing Burnout in the Nonprofit Sector: How Full Is Your Cup? Sustaining Yourself While Serving Others

The people who show up every day for the most vulnerable members of our community carry more than most people realize. Burnout in the helping professions is real, it's common, and it's not a sign of weakness -- it's biology. In this session, Julie Turner draws on the research of Drs. Emily and Amelia Nagoski to explain why "just rest" isn't actually a strategy, what it really means to complete the stress cycle, and how nonprofit professionals can begin to replenish -- not just recover. You'll leave with a reframe and a few concrete tools you can use on an ordinary Tuesday.

Dr. Julie Turner is the President and CEO of United Services for Children, a St. Charles-based nonprofit serving families of children with developmental delays and disabilities since 1975. With a Ph.D. in Education and nearly two decades as a professor of nonprofit management at Lindenwood University, Julie brings both research and real-world leadership to the topic of burnout in the helping professions. She facilitates workshops on compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and sustainable service for social workers, educators, healthcare professionals, and nonprofit staff.
