Unveiling the Shadows: A Luncheon on Combatting Sex Trafficking and Empowering Survivors

Join us as we hear from the Gateway Alliance Against Human Trafficking about what we need to know on combatting sex trafficking and empowering survivors.

GAHT

By exploiting vulnerabilities, human trafficking has created an estimated $32 billion global profit that continues to grow larger every day. There are plenty of myths about human trafficking and to fight against it, we need to educate our community about the reality of human trafficking as a crime that has become a public health crisis and impacts our community. Since 2014, Gateway Alliance against Human Trafficking has developed educational videos and led many programs and provided thousands of hours of public training, professional development courses, school presentations, and conferences at no cost to help increase the identification and reporting of human trafficking in our community.

Training community members and service providers to recognize the signs of human trafficking and help victims access services can and will save more lives. The work never ends when it comes to keeping the most vulnerable among us, our kids, safe. This is the mission of the Gateway Alliance against Human Trafficking to educate communities and inspire positive systemic change to end human trafficking; because knowledge is power. The more training and services we can provide throughout our community, the more lives can be saved. This program enables participants to identify human trafficking, its risk factors, and how to report the crime to proper authorities.

SPEAKER BIO - Jatonya Clayborn is a retired Detective Sergeant with over 25 years of law enforcement experience. She was first introduced to the topic of human trafficking in 2008, while working in a specialized detective bureau. There, she worked with local, state, and federal law enforcement to investigate and prosecute human trafficking cases. After being promoted to Sergeant in 2014, Jatonya’s role as an investigator increased to include supervising human trafficking investigations.

Realizing the lack of awareness related to the topic of human trafficking, in 2017 Jatonya successfully campaigned for and facilitated mandatory human trafficking training for her organization’s commissioned personnel. She went on to extend free human trafficking training opportunities to communities, groups, and organizations.

Today, Jatonya continues her mission to increase human trafficking awareness in her role as the Program Director for the Gateway Alliance against Human Trafficking. The Gateway Alliance against Human Trafficking is a local nonprofit organization whose mission is rooted in educating communities and inspiring positive systemic change to end human trafficking.
